Hey Bud, that front bar on your car would be perfect for this type of set-up, I wish I had one... maybe you should put it back on the car and try it. __________________ P.Martin 29 |

So all of you are going out and buying a set of slicks to run this deal? or do you plan on running the dirt tires on pavement? __________________ Rafael Alvarez

A D20-30 dirt tire works just fine, they actually outlast slicks, the D-25 that AMMA runs would be good. __________________ Dallas Quick

Don't the dirt tires have a much softer sidewall than the slicks that they run? Just asking because I can only imagine that it would be like night and day between the two types of tires. __________________ Rafael Alvarez

Reply with quote | #12 | Huge ..! Huge.! Success..! What a Freak'n Blast.! I-10 Speedway's packed grandstands really enjoyed the show that Paul Martin #29 & Austin Quick# 28 put on for them tonite. They want to see more of this..! ( it only takes two cars to have a great race) Their side by side (2 fast racing grooves) lap after lap racing action with speeds just a 1/2 second off the track record set by USAC midgets was impressive to say the least. This was right off the rookie trailers too, Wait until we tweek the chassis setups.
Tire wear is not an issue..after 50 hard racing laps on asphalt, the D-25 and D-30 tires show very little wear (less wear actually than 20 laps on dry slick dirt) and they stuck like glue to the track. We will post a youtube video of the action in the near future. For those who have never visited I-10 Speedway, this is a first class racing facility, that caters to the needs of the fans and racers. Our thanks to them for having us, and the open invitation to host several races over the winter months for any minsprints that would like to attend More details on that later. __________________ Dallas Quick

WOW, WOW, WOW. Both Katherine and myself are blown away with how the tire wear was. It is not an issue. Period. Unbelievable. Yes, they did wear and grain a little at first. But after they got a few heat cycles in them, they cured and man did they ever stick. The cars handled like a dream and both Austin and Paul could move they're cars all over the track comfortably and safely. There is no need for installing front brakes as just the rears proved to be more than enough. Yes, you do need to run hard compounds, yes, you do need to do some set up changes, stiffer springs etc... It is pavement. Dallas has offered his help to ANYBODY on this. The crowd loved the cars and really enjoyed the demonstration and want us back. The cars are fast, 13 second laps, they can run anywhere on the track and sound great with the exhaust echoing off of the billboards. You can count on the kace motorsports 42 at the next one. I will post pictures of the tires A.S.A.P.. |

Reply with quote | #15 | Awesome Experience!!! Those of you who were not there missed out, we had a blast! Austins car rolled out of the trailer with a very fast set-up and after some minor adjustments we were up to speed after our second session. Chasing Austin into turn 3 in the first session the rear tried to step out about a foot on me and then hooked up again with very little steering input. That was the only time either one of us were loose and that was in the heat of the day. After about 30 laps we gained confidence in our set-ups and lines we were running. First we ran a 4 lap dash side by side for 3 laps, cat and mouse style, and the fans went crazy. Our impressive 2 car field lined up for our finale anticipating the start. The green flag dropped and we swapped the lead back and forth passing on the high side and the packed crowd stood on their feet as we put on show. It was AWESOME! The traction of no wheel spin and the speed off the corner and the grip in the banking of the turns was one of the most exhilerating feelings I have ever experienced.....Bad Fast! I was raised around the dirt tracks racing gokarts on dirt and also later shifter karts on pavement . Now I am a huge fan of pavement racing. I feel the best all around versitile drivers come out of the usac midget series running on both pavement and dirt. Our two associations need to merge and a big wide pavement 1/4 mile oval needs to be born in Phoenix.... Now Is The Time. __________________ P.Martin 29 |

I have to say it sure looked like a lot of fun, the cars were fast and as everyone learns how to set them up, they will run faster. The tire wear wasn't a issue, which suprised me, I think they stuck so well that the tires just didn't break contact much. The crowd loved it and really seemed into watching them. |

Hey Andy...Did youseguys run slicks on the ModLites when youseguys ran there or at TRP? I'll bet those things must have been pretty bada** at TRP. __________________ Take it to the top & let it rock |

Reply with quote | #18 | racinround, The modlites run a goodyear grooved slick. I've only run at the lake havasu track. Alot of fun. I haven't been able to run at the t.r.p. deal. I probably wont support a private modlite race anymore. Just do a few club only shows here and there. The mini-sprint deal though was pretty freakin cool! Kat and I will be at the next one. Anybody have a d25 or d30 r.f or l.r. they wanna get ride of??? Let me know. |

I would have to agree it looked like a lot of fun and if I hadn't seen the tire's myself I wouldn't have believed it. The LF tire seemed to take the most abuse, which seems odd, but the other tires looked great. I expected the RF and RR to get chewed off the car and they looked great on both cars. The changes Dallas and Paul made to their cars to set them up for asphalt was minimal and they seemed to be stuck like glue the whole time they were on the track. The cars were fast, they sounded like Indy cars out there, the drivers put on a great show, and it didn't take long for the 48 team to be wishing we had brought our car. Next time..... Bud PS. Dallas, I hope your wife feels better soon!

Reply with quote | #20 | My newer D12 did get shredded when the sun was out on the rf. We put a harder/older D12 on the lf. and a D30 on the rf., that Dallas had. An older D10 on the Lt. rear (thank's Stub) which gave me 3 1/2" of staggar. Had a D35 Sticker tire that was 3 years old on the RR.that was wearing nice. Barrowed 200lb. front springs (thank's Jeff P.) cheap fun only cost was food and a tank and 1/2 of gas and 5gal. of methanol. After the two sessions we scrubed the tires in and cycled them and by the evening the rt. sides looked like pavement gumball sticky tires. The Lt.side looked like a 20 lap hard slick fine feather at the end of the night. It was nice to run at such a top notch facility that let the fans come down on the track for an autograph and interveiw session, It had a big time racing feel to the whole evening. ps.Dallas, the same. __________________ P.Martin 29 |

Reply with quote | #23 | Now that we know what works and what doesn't and how much freakin' fun this is , I will post a list of recommended "spec" tire size and compounds we would use for any races we get organized in the future , along with shock and spring recommendations to help save you some time, money and trouble getting your chassis setup should you like to join in and have some races there over the winter season. Peter D Motorsports has great prices on springs, along with a selection of used springs for cheap $25 by the way. The fans and track owner would love to see it happen, he has agreed to our normal purse for any races we put together. This is a great opportunity to learn a different driving style and technique while gaining valueable experience without the expense of moving to a different class of car to do so. All of which will enhance your racing resume'. There will be another full day of test and tune for anyone interested in doing so after the holidays. Any questions give me a call, 928-699-8892

I also will have a mini (no pun intended) tire shop at the track in our pits so we can assist anyone that needs tire mounting and balancing. Right now I am looking for an old school bubble ballancer that will work with 10" wheels, If anyone has one or knows of one please call, 480.522.0145. I have everything else. Thank you. __________________ P.Martin 29 |

It's not really just for me, a wider wheel in the front may have a slight vibration we found on the #28. I personally didn't mind my bent wheel half on the Lf. outer. And I just replaced my king pins and bushings and heims on the rack/tie rods... for your info. It was like power steering. __________________ P.Martin 29 |
